Flickrati NYC: NYC In One Shot
It's all Seawallrunner's fault.
It was her idea about a flickr book that got me to thinking of compiling a book of flickr NYC folk. And now I've gone ahead and done a bad bad thing, I've let people know about it and I've actually planned for it.
Which is a rather lame say of saying that open submissions are now being taken for the Flickr NYC book. The rules are rather simple.
1) Maximum 2 pictures submitted per person. Picture should somehow emboy the spirit/feel/look of NYC in one picture.
2) Picture of NYC taken by NYC resident in NYC.
3) Picture must be in flickr.
4) You have to own the picture (duh!), which means you took it, you own it, your copyright on it.
5) You have to agree to allow me and Jackie/Six Productions (our dba) permission to reprint your picture as part of the book (duh!). Essentially non-exclusive license to use. You retain full copyright to your pics, of course.
6) You have to follow the submission guidelines and proceedures.
7) You have to have fun with the whole process.
8) If you are submitting pictures of children, you should have written authorization. We're not going to check, and if the lawyers come, we'll be sending them on to you.
9) This is all on honor code. We're assuming you're going to follow the rules and the law, and by submitting your pics you agree to take that full responsibility.
10) Pictures should be pre-formatted according to resolution and size guidelines below (300dpi!). I'll try to accomidate those of you that can't make the adjustments, but I can't guarantee that your picture won't become mangled in the process. Unless your picture is properly preformatted/sized, you agree to allow us to make necessary changes to you pic to get it into the proper formatting/size.
This isn't some professional magazine ala JPG magazine, it's just a fun collection of how the NYC flickrati view our fair city. For you folk who live outside the 5 boros, don't get cranky. If this works out well, the limits will be eased greatly in future editions (if there are any).
How to submit:
Send picture in jpg format via email to flickrati[(at])yahoo.com
Subject line should read: flickrati picture submission
Also include the following information:
flickr id
name (optional)
year picture taken
address you can find picture on flickr - must be public (ex: http://www.flickr.com/photos/larimdame/13866500/)
title (optional)
Pictures cannot be more then 5mb in size (as yahoo will not accept), not responsible for pictures not received.
Sizing/Picture Setting information:
Pictures will be printed via lulu.com on color CYMK pages. It is suggested that you punch up the contrast a little to compensate for the print quality. Unfortunately, I cannot provide exact suggestions for how much to punch it up by.
All pics must be 300dpi.
The book will be a 9x7 format, with .125 inch bleed edge. If you are submitting full page pictures, the size should be 2775 x 2175 px. If you would like your picture to be considered for the cover, the size needs to be 2813 x 2325 px.
For those that submit pictures of smaller sizes, your picture will simply be centered on the page.
The only exception is for people who submit 3mp pictures or smaller, in which case it is highly recommended that you resize for 4.5 x 3 (1343 x 900) or smaller. This will allow us to put two pictures per page. If you choose not to, we will not resize, but don't blame us if the results are less then spectacular.
You are free to resize to whatever dimesions you want, just keep in mind that the maximum we can accomidate is 2775 x 2175 px. (300dpi!)
Pricing/Publishing
Unfortunately, there is no budget, so if you submit, you will not get anything besides the satisfaction of being selected. We're doing this at-cost, there is no profit or royalty available. Books will be available for public sale via lulu.com approx mid June. Contributors who make it into the book (approx 30-40 pages) will be notified ahead of time. If you have any further questions or comments, please make them in http://www.flickr.com/groups/flickratinyc/, there will be no response to email sent to the flickrati submission box.
Otherwise, have fun!
